A Couple's Guide to Bristol Harbourside This Summer

A Couple's Guide to Bristol Harbourside This Summer

A Couple enjoying the Weather Deck over Summer at Bristol Dockyards

Whether it's a first date, your weekly date night or simply an excuse to spend more quality time together, Bristol Harbourside is one of the city's most memorable places for couples to explore.

It’s no surprise that Bristol Dockyards has been named as the 'Best thing to do in Bristol for Couples' on Tripadvisor – we’re the home to an iconic landmark, two museums and a waterside restaurant.

From quieter weekday escapes, sunset music by the water, or a chance to explore our brand-new museum, it's easier than ever to transform a stroll around the docks into a memorable day out as a pair.

Here's why Bristol Dockyards should be your next date destination:

Start with Bristol's Quietest Museum Day

For a slower-paced date, why not visit on one of Bristol Dockyards' quietest days? Until 2 September, we're open daily, with Mondays often offering a little more room to explore. Take your time wandering the historic dockyard, stepping aboard the ship and soaking up the atmosphere together.

While you're here, be among the first to experience the new SS Great Britain Experience Museum. The ultimate boarding experience, where you can discover the people who built the ship and follow the journeys of migrants sailing to new lives in Australia, and voyages to Crimea and India.

Make the Most of Afternoon Saver Tickets

Our Afternoon Saver is one of the best-value ways for adults to experience the whole site.

From 2.30pm, you can visit for £13 online or £15 on the door, providing two and a half hours to explore the SS Great Britain, new museum, historic dockyard, Being Brunel Museum and the Being Brunel Institute.

If you find yourselves wanting more time, you can always upgrade to an annual pass and enjoy unlimited return visits for the next 12 months. Perfect for couples looking to make the Dockyards their go-to date spot.

Save Even More with 2-4-1

If you're travelling from further afield, our 2-for-1 Adult Pass through National Rail makes a date at the Dockyards even better value. Arrive by train and enjoy two adult admissions for the price of one.

With Bristol Temple Meads just a short walk or bus ride away, it's easy to turn your visit into a relaxed day exploring the city's vibrant harbourside, waterfront attractions and independent eateries before or after your time with us.

Romance on the High Seas

As you wander through the ship, keep an eye out for the real-life stories of couples and families whose lives were changed by a voyage aboard the SS Great Britain. Over her four decades in service, the ship carried thousands of passengers across the globe. Some travelling to reunite with loved ones, while others embarked on newly married life, leaving everything they knew behind in search of new opportunities in foreign lands.

One of our favourite stories is that of Susan Mary Crompton and her husband, Joseph, who travelled from Melbourne to Liverpool aboard the SS Great Britain on their honeymoon voyage, documenting their journey home together.

While we share stories like these from the ship's past, the SS Great Britain continues to be part of new love stories today, hosting wedding receptions aboard the iconic vessel. As you explore, see what stories you can uncover together. You never know which passenger's tale of love, adventure or fresh beginnings might become your favourite.

Make a Day of Bristol Harbourside

One of the best things about Bristol Dockyards is its location. Nestled in the heart of the historic harbourside, it's perfectly placed for a day of exploring together.

Arrive a little early and spend time wandering the waterfront, discovering independent cafés, galleries, museums and hidden corners along the way. We'd recommend stopping by Spike Island or Banksy's The Girl with the Pierced Eardrum, all just a short stroll from the dockyard.

If you'd like to turn your visit into a full day out, why not build your own harbourside itinerary with some of our favourite nearby attractions?
