Looking for a unique Christmas gift in Bristol that gives something back? This year, why not give a gift that helps protect a piece of history?

Adopt An Artefact & Big Give Christmas Gift Guide

With Bristol Dockyards' Adopt an Artefact scheme, you can support the conservation of an extraordinary object from our collection, while helping bring heritage to life for future generations.

From one of the last tickets issued for the SS Great Britain to Rachel Henning's travel diary and Isambard Kingdom Brunel's personal belongings, each artefact has a fascinating story to tell. With adoptions ranging from £25 to £300, it's a thoughtful Christmas gift for history lovers, Brunel enthusiasts and anyone passionate about Bristol's maritime heritage. Each adoption includes a pack by post and the opportunity to visit your artefact in person.

Alternatively, make a gift that helps protect the SS Great Britain itself by supporting our Big Give Christmas Challenge. We're raising £20,000 to safeguard the ship and her historic dry dock, which is facing significant conservation challenges, including water ingress threatening the ship's hull.

From 10am on 1 December 2026, donations made through the Big Give can be doubled at no extra cost to you, thanks to match funding.

Every contribution helps preserve Bristol's maritime heritage and ensure the SS Great Britain's story continues for generations to come.
