Current Volunteer Opportunities

Musicians

We are currently looking for a musical volunteer who is interested in playing for small audiences on the ship. Within this role you will be performing some small pieces for those on the ship, helping to add to the atmosphere of the ship.

Groundskeeper

We are currently looking for someone physically fit to help keep the area around the SS Great Britain tidy, carrying out regular weekly weeding and general upkeep; please get in touch with our team to learn more about this role.

Bookshop

We are currently looking for a bookshop volunteer who is interested in helping us run our small volunteer book nook that is a new addition to the SS Great Britain shop. Within the nature of this role, it would be great to get a volunteer who is committed to coming back multiple times

Hear from our volunteers

“I started volunteering after retiring because I wanted to work with people. I’ve met visitors from all over the world and now deliver Botany discovery talks on board. The ship and its volunteering programme offer just about everything.

Caroline

“It’s a privilege to support such an important piece of local and national heritage. I enjoy engaging with visitors and helping bring the ship’s stories to life.”

David

“I love meeting such a wide range of visitors. The staff and fellow volunteers are welcoming and supportive, and it’s rewarding to feel part of such a friendly team.”
